About This Workshop

A hands-on workshop immersing you in the world of natural color. Learn to make ink from natural materials, experiment and play with the beautiful interactions from these living inks.

What You'll Do & Take Home

We will take natural materials from gardens and kitchens alike to make beautiful living inks. Learn the basics of ink making as we make inks in class in a wondrous array of color. We will learn about plants and minerals along the way and the ways in which they interact with each other. Each participant will take home small paintings they may have created and a vial of ink.

Molly Holmlund

I am an artist fascinated by the natural world. I make my own inks from various materials gathered on long walks and my kitchen alike. The color from the natural materials is unmatched, grounding in tone and interacting with each other creating a unique alchemy and harmonious color palette. My work explores the interconnectedness of nature through their color. I work simply, allowing the material to lead and drawing attention to subtle layers, transparency, and the negative spaces that emerge between them. The resulting gestural marks reflect a collaboration between the natural world and my own hand.
