Introduction to Postcrossing (International Postcard Exchange)
About This Workshop
Let me introduce you to your new favorite hobby! This session includes an introduction to the postcrossing community, help registering for the forum, a take-home instructional zine for future reference, and all materials needed to collage or color a custom postcard to send to a recipient abroad.
What You'll Do & Take Home
The Postcrossing forum was created in 2005 by Pablo Magalhaes when he was a student in Portugal. He loved receiving postcards and knew he wasn't alone, so Postcrossing was born as a means to exchange more fun mail. The goal is simple: for each postcard you send, you receive one back from a different random postcrosser somewhere else in the world. In this session we will get you signed up for the forum, explain the postcard registration process and exchange cycle, then spend the remainder of the session cutting paper and images to collage our own custom postcard, with tips on the best pens to use, how to avoid mail-processing pitfalls, and how to increase your chances of your card being favorited.
Hi! My name is Jen Kraft. Kraft Studio PDX is an evolving personal project of creative exploration, whimsy, and community-building. It started as a way to label my personal creative projects in a cohesive way, but now I want to boldly share my art with the world, and encourage others to find their own artist within. My promise to you is that my content will always be entirely AI-free, and all community events will be screen-free, offline experiences where you can connect with your inner child, other humans, and the present moment.
